Favourite Celeb Hair: Ginnifer Goodwin

I am in love with Giniffer Goodwin's short hair. I first noticed her as an actress when watching "Something Borrowed" where she had longer locks and cute bangs. I never would have guessed to see her next with an edgy and very sleek pixie. With her hair cut shorter, it showcases more of her amazing features and draws attention to her very expressive eyes.

In an article I found recently, Ginnifer states that she prefers to wear wigs, since she sees hair as being "expressive". She now has a wig clause written into each of her contracts so that she doesn't have to worry about growing out a hairstyle she doesn't prefer.

Choosing to stay with more of a feminine touch, the cut still has some length on top, which allows for curling and backcombing. I prefer to see a bit of fullness on top so that a short cut doesn't become too masculine, even if the face shape and features are petite.

With many women opting to stay with very long hair, I admire those who take a risk and do something very different. In Hollywood, those are the styles that will stand out to stylist.

A good choice for Ginnifer!

Shoulder Length Style: Waves

I really love that this length gives me extra body. When I was younger my whole head would wave nicely if I got out of the shower and simply combed it out and let it air dry. Now that I have gone through puberty and things have changed, it didn't do that so much when it was long. My hair would hold a very loose wave that almost looked like I hadn't even tried doing anything with it. When I cut my hair I was looking forward to seeing how much of my wave came back.

I thought I would test the theory this morning. Today I washed my hair and left it in the towel for about 5 minutes. I blew out my bangs and applied some light hold gel and the Moroccan Oil Curling Mousse while scrunching all sections. My hair is holding a beautiful and tight wave! I finished it off with a light hold Paul Mitchell spray called "Worked Up".

Tomorrow, I plan on brushing it out with a cushion brush and curling sections with a one inch curling iron. Hopefully I can get two days out of this easily styled look!

Shoulder Length Hair

To start, I feel it necessary to talk about length. I had cut my hair into a chin length bob in 2009 and had been growing it out ever since. In December, my hair was quite long, far reaching my goal. Then, last week, I cut it to my collarbone. I know, what was I thinking?

I did so as I was under the assumption that my hair was looking very "thin" or without body as it would tend to drag and not hold much volume unless it was curled with a one inch curling iron. Going to the hairdresser, I knew that I wanted a few inches taken off to freshen up my look. I didn't expect to leave with 4 inches gone!

I do feel rather shallow having to admit that I cried one night last week as I was trying to adjust. It seems self absorbed to be emotionally attached to your hair and I need to realize that having healthy hair has always been my priority. My stylist is wonderful and I always keep up on my color and conditioning treatments. Now, I just have to wait for it to grow out a few more inches. I think that my lesson here, is that I am going to try and enjoy it as much as I can while I grow out my hair again and try to be realistic about it. I should be thankful to have hair! That I am.

So, I have come up with a few ideas regarding my grow out process. I am going to photograph myself the last day of each month to document my progress and blog something relating to what I am liking most about the length I currently have. I will try and find pictures of celebrity cuts that are similar to my length and go along with any cool observations I find out about along the way. My goal length is not going to be as long as it was before. I would be quite happy if I could grow out the 4 inches I would like back.

Here's to a happy grow-out!

Hair Blog

Hello All!

I'm very excited to start this blog; it's been something I've been thinking about for a while. I am a licensed and practicing hairdresser and I love my job. Not only do I get the opportunity to make people feel confident and beautiful, I get to be creative each and every day. This blog is going to be a place where I can discuss anything hair related and share my current struggles and triumphs in the industry.

I'm looking forward to having a place to talk about all things hair!!
